Plantation Lodge is a peaceful, owner-run retreat set on a working coffee and arable farm just west of Karatu, less than an hour from the Ngorongoro Crater and a stone's throw from the conservation area's park gate. What began as a farmstead was converted by owners Renate and Udo Marahrens into today's characterful lodge, set in lovely grounds home to some 140 bird species.
The lodge's 16 individually furnished rooms and suites melt harmoniously into the flowering gardens of bougainvillea, each with its own unique style, large beds, en-suite bathrooms and wood-burning stoves. At 1,600 metres altitude in the Ngorongoro Highlands, the lodge offers views over surrounding farmland and coffee plantations.
