Travel FAQ

Answers to the questions we hear most from travelers planning a trip with us, wherever you’re coming from. Requirements can change, so always confirm current entry rules with official sources before you travel.

Do I need a visa to visit Tanzania?

Most likely yes — the vast majority of nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania (this covers Zanzibar too, as one visa applies to both mainland Tanzania and the islands). The easiest option for most travelers is the Tanzania e-Visa, applied for online in advance through the official Tanzania Immigration website. Visa-on-arrival is also available at Kilimanjaro International Airport, Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam), and Zanzibar Airport for most nationalities, though we recommend applying online beforehand to avoid queues.

Visa fees, validity, and entry conditions vary by nationality — for example, UK and most EU citizens typically pay around $50 for a single-entry tourist visa valid 90 days, while US citizens are generally required to get a $100 multi-entry visa due to reciprocity rules. Check the official Tanzania Immigration website (immigration.go.tz) for the exact requirements and fees for your passport. If paying on arrival, bring USD cash in good condition.

Do I need any vaccinations?

A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required only if you’re arriving from, or have transited through, a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission — this isn’t a blanket requirement for every traveler, and depends on your specific routing rather than your nationality. Check your full itinerary, including layovers, before you fly.

It’s also worth making sure routine vaccinations (MMR, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis, polio) are up to date, and discussing Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and anti-malaria medication with your doctor or a travel clinic ahead of your trip.

What passport requirements apply?

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates, with at least one blank page for entry stamps. This applies regardless of nationality.

What should I pack for a safari?

Lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing (avoid bright colours and all-black/all-blue, which can attract insects), a warm layer for early morning game drives, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, insect repellent, and any personal medication. If you’ve booked our Gear/Equipment Rental add-on, some of this can be arranged for you on arrival.

How do I pay, and in what currency?

All bookings on our website are processed in GBP (£), wherever you’re booking from. You can pay in full or spread the cost with an instalment plan. Full details, including bank transfer and mobile money options for customers in Tanzania, are on our Payment Options page.

What if I have dietary requirements or specific needs?

Just let us know when booking or beforehand via our Contact page — we’ll do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, or other specific requirements.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Refunds depend on how far ahead of departure you cancel. Full details are on our Terms & Conditions page.
